Here in St. Benet’s, Paul’s Wharf , Thomas Wingfield, later described as “of York River, Virginia” (1680) was christened on 29th March 1664. Today’s church is the church of the College of Arms and of London’s Welsh Community. Unfortunately the huge nearby stately Church of the Friars Preachers with its wondrous memorials, where Sir John Wingfield, son and heir of Sir John and Lady Wingfield, (nee Elizabeth Fitzlewis) was buried in 1509, did not see the 16th century out.
